What is Pilates?

May 19, 2016

The question is often asked and truly to understand Pilates Method training, one has to experience it!

Pilates is a true Mind-Body discipline. It requires systematic practice of specific sequences of exercises. Its emphasis on purity of form of each movement, demands total focus and concentration creating a bridge between mental acuity and physical execution!

Pilates strengthens and stretches, corrects muscular imbalances, encourages improved postural habits and can alleviate back, neck and other joint problems. It promotes proper musculo-skeletal alignment and neuromuscular patterning while balancing muscular force at the joint level. It works several muscle groups simultaneously through smooth continuous motion with a particular concentration on strengthening and stabilizing the core.

A Pilates method workout is core-driven, and the whole body is integrated with every sequence as opposed to parts of the body working in isolation. It embodies the saying “the whole is greater than the sum of its parts” by Aristotle. Joseph Pilates was ahead of his time in creating a timeless method of improving the body!
