Osteopathy cannot be defined by the techniques it uses, but by its goals: to bring harmony to the body, in order to allow the patient to enjoy a well-balanced frame, full of energy.
Osteopathy embraces the philosophy that the body has an innate, natural ability to self-regulate and to heal itself. It takes into account the different connections between the systems composing your body: anatomical, physiological, psychological, and environmental. For example, the loss of mobility of a joint, a muscle, a ligament, or the viscera, can create symptoms elsewhere in the body. An understanding of “the map” of the body through anatomy is essential in finding the root cause.
Osteopathy has its roots in the understanding that the human body is not a collection of separate parts, but rather an integrated system that works together as a whole. We believe that in order for your body to work well, its structure must also work well. An osteopath’s work involves gentle, manual manipulation of your muscles and joints to restore your body to a state of balance.
Osteopathy is for people who want to treat the cause of their pain instead of patching the symptoms with a band-aid.The Osteopathic manual therapist will choose techniques depending on the patient’s need, his body type, his age, the amount of energy he has, and the past injuries that lead to his symptoms. All techniques are gentle and specific to the patient’s needs on that particular day.
